The Looking-Glass in Retrograde
Does Alice still drift off to
Wonderland,
Or have her daydreams slowly passed away?
Can she still grip the rabbit’s tiny hand
And meet the Hatter for some tea today?
May she yet quibble with the Queen of Hearts,
Repeat the Caterpillar's sordid tales,
Seek out the knave who stole the scrumptious tarts,
Or paddle out to where the Dodo sails?
The looking-glass is old and tarnished now,
The game is done; the Turtle's dance has stopped,
But can the inner girl remember how
The music goes, or has the tune been dropped?
Can Alice old still find the rabbit hole?
The answer's hidden deep within her soul.
